• Prof. Tanusri Saha-Dasgupta (on lien to IACS) has been awarded the prestigious Dr. A. P. J. Kalam High Performance Computing Award.
• The documentary on life and works of Prof. S. N. Bose- 'An Iconic Genius' produced by the Centre on the occasion of Bose-125 years celebrations and directed by Satyajit Ray Films and Television Institute (SRFTI) has been awarded the 'Best Science Film (Non Fiction) award' in the '16 Film International Festivals-16IFF 2018', Jaipur.

The Centre has observed "Swachhta Pakhwada" from 1st May to 15th May, 2018, through a motivational lecture: "The Best out of Waste". The lecture has been delivered by Prof. S.K. Pal, Senior Professor of the Centre on 4th May, 2018 at 3.00 P.M.

The Centre has observed "Swachhta Pakhwada" from 1st May to 15th May, 2018: An Essay Competition on "Waste Management" has been organized at the Centre on 08.05.2018.

The Centre has observed "Swachhta Pakhwada" from 1st May to 15th May, 2018 : A drama on "Observance of swachhta at workplace" held at 3.00 p.m. in the Silver Jubilee Hall of the Centre on 15th May, 2018.

The Centre has observed "Swachhta Pakhwada" from 1st May to 15th May, 2018 : An Essay Competition on "Waste Management" was organized at the Centre on 08.05.2018. The winners are :
1st - Mr. Supriyo Ganguly, Jr. Engineer (Electrical) 2nd - Ms. Sadhana Tiwari, Hindi Officer 3rd - Ms. Sudipta Das, Office Assistant.

The RF furnace has been inaugurated on 21st May, 2018 by the Director. It can melt from 1-12 gms of metallic alloys and can also make metglass reeds. It is especially suited for high purity systems, where the total sample load is very small due to high purity of the constituent elements (>99%). This is the first such facilty in India for basic research in alloys.

The C. K. Majumdar Memorial Summer Workshop in Physics (CKMMSWP) 2018 has been organized during 23 May - 02 June , 2018 at the Centre.
